Ryan was a grandson of an American railway tycoon, Thomas Fortune Ryan. The elder Ryan was a known adventurer and apparently passed this love of exploring down to his grandson. In the latter 1930s, the younger Ryan visited Mont Tremblant for the time.
Climbing its peak, Ryan apparently had fell hard for the mountain because he decided right after to make it accessible to others. Hence, he poured his energy into making it a world-class alpine destination. After marrying in 1939, Mont-Tremblant was officially christened.
Because of his status and ability to attract other wealthy notables, by the end of that year, Time magazine mentioned it as a popular destination for American outdoorsman and skiers. Hence, the birth of Mont Tremblant as it is known today, although it has grown beyond what Ryan could have possibly imagined.
